MacLehose Press have acquired U.K. and Commonwealth rights to THE WILD ONE by Guillermo Arriaga.

THE WILD ONE is set in Mexico in the 1960s, in which the story of a teenage boy seeking revenge for the murder of his family by a sinister cabal is interwoven with that of an Inuit wolf hunter and his prey. It is a story of pure adventure, unfolding in the fragmented style for which Arriaga is famous, and set against a backdrop of repression, police brutality and Church intrigue.

Frank Wynne, the award-winning translator of the book, describes it as “both poetic and violent, and the most visceral experience one can have as a reader. A young man makes a journey from the corrupt barrios of Mexico City to the eery, ethereal landscapes of the Yukon, led only by a wolf. Arriaga charts a rite of passage that is both epic and intimate.” “It is a pounding novel,” according to the renowned Mexican novelist and critic Guadalupe Nettel, “by an authentically unique author.” Guillermo Arriaga is the celebrated screenplay writer of “Amores perros”, “21 grams” and “Babel”.

The acquisition has been made through Kevin Conroy Scott at Tibor Jones & Associates on behalf of Raquel de la Concha at R.D.C. Agencia Literaria.

THE WILD ONE will be published in the autumn of 2018.
